Everyone knows that preparation is the key to successful conception, but understanding what actually improves fertility can be confusing. As a result, many patients, when they first visit us, try to do “everything”. This approach can become expensive, increase already high stress levels, and, in some cases, may inadvertently decrease fertility.
We review all the major factors that research shows can affect conception. These include evidence-based dietary approaches, supplement usage, weight management, exercise levels, stress and anxiety management, alcohol consumption, and more.
Importantly, we won’t give you a long list of expensive supplements to take or complicated diets to follow. Instead, we’ll recommend small, easy-to-implement changes proven by research to have a positive impact on your fertility.
If you or your partner have previously been pregnant, certain aspects of those pregnancies may provide clues as to why you are currently experiencing fertility difficulties. We will consider these as part of your comprehensive assessment.
We will look into your reproductive and obstetric family history as some fertility related medical conditions can be passed on.
Acupuncture treatment is holistic, so we look at every system in your body to see if everything is working as well as it should. It’s not unusual for a patient to be “fit and healthy” from a conventional medical point of view only to have several syndromes (as they are referred to in acupuncture) that need to be treated by acupuncture.
We will also review your case for evidence of any possible underlying medical conditions that can reduce fertility. If appropriate, we will refer you for further investigations to rule them in or out.
Following a thorough review of your medical and fertility history, we will formulate a fertility acupuncture treatment plan.
Your plan may also include easy-to-implement steps to reduce or eliminate modifiable barriers to conception, a referral for additional tests, and recommendations regarding assisted reproductive treatments.
